The Cibola Range is a fully equipped aviation test range specializing in testing aircraft weapons, munitions, fire control systems, and target acquisition systems. The range covers 860 square miles of land dedicated solely to aviation testing. It provides complete instrumentation facilities that measure aircraft and target space position utilizing laser trackers, radars, cine and video theodolites, multi-camera tracking mounts, and a differential global positioning system multi-target tracking capability. All forms of telemetry, both data and video, are available from aircraft. All range instrumentation is linked in real-time and is provided in mixed media formats. A full set of ammunition and explosives handling facilities, non-destructive testing, explosive ordnance disposal capabilities, and maintenance shops support the range.

Yuma Proving Ground has been recognized by the Department of Defense as the designated site for helicopter armament testing.
