Command Sgt. Maj. Joe E. Johnson Jr. assumed the responsibilities as command sergeant major of the U.S. Army Operational Test Command, Fort Cavazos, Texas.

CSM Joe E. Johnson Jr. is a native of Elizabethtown, North Carolina, entering the Army in May 1996 as a Chemical Operations Specialist. CSM Johnson has served in a variety of assignments and held positions in U.S. Army Special Operations Command (USASOC), U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM), Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), and U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).

Company, 22nd Chemical Battalion, Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland; Document and Media Exploitation NCOIC at Joint Special Operations Command, Iraq; Senior Drill Sergeant Leader (Maneuver Support Center of Excellence Drill Sergeant School, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Senior Drill Sergeant (F Company, 82nd Chemical Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Small Group Leader 8th Army NCO Academy, Camp Jackson, South Korea; and Senior Parachutist on the Jumpmaster Teams of Headquarters, 82nd Airborne Division, U.S. Army Special Operations Command, and 1st Special Forces Command.

CSM Johnson has completed coursework for a Doctorate in Public Administration with Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia. He also holds a Master of Science in Management and a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts from Excelsior College, Albany, New York. CSM Johnson is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class 68.
