Sgt. Maj. Michael A. Goodman

SGM Michael A. Goodman entered the United States Army Reserve in July 1989 and attended Basic/AIT at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. SGM Goodman served in the 316th Quartermaster unit out of San Diego, California as a 63B Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic. During his time in the 316th Quartermaster Unit, he deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.

SGM Goodman would not join active duty until April 1992 and once again attending Basic/AIT OSUT at Fort Benning, Georgia as an 11M Infantryman. SGM Goodman has held assignments within the Light, Mechanized and Stryker Infantry organizations. His assignments include Charlie Company, 2-7 CAV, Fort Hood, TX; Charlie Company, 1-9 IN (MECH), Camp Hovey, Korea; Delta and Charlie Company, 1/15IN 3ID (MECH) Fort Benning, GA; Sacramento Recruiting Battalion, Modesto, CA; Charlie Company, 1-30IN (MECH) 3ID, Fort Benning, GA; U.S. Army's Test and Evaluations Command (ATEC) in Alexandria, VA; ROTC Senior Military Science Instructor, San Diego State University, San Diego, CA; Delta and HHC Companies 2/2 SCR in Vilseck, Germany; The Old Guard in Fort Myer, VA; 1-87 IN 10th Mountain Division (LI), Fort Drum, NY; 1 BCT 10th MTN, Fort Drum NY.

SGM Goodman has held numerous leadership positions: Team Leader, Section/Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, Battalion Operations Sergeant Major, and Brigade Operations Sergeant Major. SGM Goodman had four deployments: first was a deployment with the 316th Quartermaster Unit in support of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm, second in support of Operation Intrinsic Action in 1-15IN 3ID, third as a Platoon Sergeant in 1-30IN (MECH) 3ID in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III, fourth as First Sergeant in 2/2 SCR in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star (2 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (7 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (6 OLC), Good Conduct Medal (8th AWD), Overseas Service Ribbon (2), National Defense Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Bradley Master Gunner Badge, Gold Recruiter badge with three Sapphires. He is a member of the Honorable Order of Saint Maurice.

SGM Goodman has attended the United States Army Sergeant Major Academy class 66, 1SG Course, Bradley Master Gunner Course, PLDC, BNCOC, ANCOC, and the Recruiter course. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from American Military University.
