Lieutenant Colonel Brian Karhoff

LTC Brian Karhoff grew up in Northwest, Ohio and was commissioned as an Aviation Officer in 2006 after graduating from the United States Military Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management. He attended Flight School XXI and graduated in March 2008 with a qualification in the CH-47D Chinook Helicopter. His first duty assignment was with the 2nd General Support Aviation Battalion, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3d Infantry Division where he served as a Flight Company Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Battalion Assistant Operations Officer/Battle Captain, deploying to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. While with 2-3 GSAB, LTC Karhoff was also selected to participate in the United States Humanitarian Flood Relief Efforts in Pakistan where he served as the CH-47 Detachment Commander and the Task Force Operations Officer.

Following this assignment, LTC Karhoff attended the Military Intelligence Captain’s Career Course where he earned a secondary qualification as an Intelligence Officer. He completed the Army Fixed Wing Multi-Engine Qualification Course and received ratings in the C-12 Huron, Beechcraft King Air 300, and Medium Altitude Reconnaissance and Surveillance System airframes. LTC Karhoff took command of Company D, 306th Military Intelligence Battalion (Aerial Exploitation) at Ft. Cavazos, Texas in March 2012 and deployed his company to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as part of Task Force ODIN. Following command, LTC Karhoff deployed to Afghanistan for a third time to serve as the Joint Task Force ODIN-Enhanced Brigade Assistant Operations Officer and Battle Captain.

Following this deployment, LTC Karhoff attended graduate school at the Foster School of Business, University of Washington, earning a Master of Business Administration degree. After graduate school, LTC Karhoff transitioned to the Army Acquisition Corps and attended Command and General Staff College.

LTC Karhoff’s acquisition assignments include serving as the Assistant Product Manager for Program Manager Self Propelled Howitzer Systems, Program Executive Office Ground Combat Systems, where he led the M109A7 and M992A3’s initial operational test and evaluation, materiel release, and first unit fielding efforts. LTC Karhoff has also served as the Acquisition Advisor and Strategic Fires Systems Requirements Officer on the Long Range Precision Fires Cross Functional Team, Army Futures Command, in Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

LTC Karhoff’s most recent assignment was serving as the Combat Capabilities Development Command International Technology Integrator and Science Advisor to the Southern European Task Force, Africa in Vicenza, Italy, a position he held from June 2021 to April 2024. LTC Karhoff has completed the Acquisition Intermediate Qualification Course and is Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act Practitioner Level certified in Program Management.

LTC Karhoff’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Air Medal with numeral two, the Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Army Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the NATO Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Aviation Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and he is a member of the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara.
