Brig. Gen. Euiseong Lee, commander of the South Korean army’s test and evaluation group, visited the U.S. Army Operational Test Command at Fort Hood on March 23.

After an office call with Brig. Gen. Scott Spellmon, OTC commander, Lee joined Robert Miele, OTC executive director, for the command briefing. Test directors and staff answered Lee’s questions on command structure and current and future tests.

Maneuver Support and Sustainment director, Col. Ron McNamara, later escorted Lee to OTC’s forward test site on main post for additional briefings.

During a question and answer session after the command brief, Lee said the key difference between U.S. and Korean test organizations is size.

“Another big advantage,” he said, “is that because you are fighting a war, the new equipment you’ve tested can go directly into combat situation.”

The last time the Korean army chief tester visited OTC was July 2010 when Brig. Gen. Jong Sik Jeong was the guest of then-OTC commander Brig. Gen. Don “Skip” MacWillie.

OTC, the Army’s only independent tester, is a subordinate command of the Army Test and Evaluation Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. With four local test directorates and three forwards located at Fort Bliss, Fort Bragg, N.C., and Fort Sill, Okla., OTC conducts operational testing, providing critical acquisition information to Army senior leaders.
