Two Fort Hood leaders Tuesday received orders from the Army chief of staff to move to new positions.
In an announcement from the Defense Department, Col. Joseph M. Martin, commander of the U.S. Army Operational Test Command at Fort Hood, was named the next deputy commander of the 1st Cavalry Division.
Martin has served as the commander of the test command for more than seven months. In December, President Barack Obama nominated Martin to be promoted to the rank of brigadier general.
“It will be an honor and a privilege to serve as a deputy division commanding general of the 1st Cavalry Division as much as it has been an honor and a privilege serving as the commander of the U.S. Army Operational Test Command,” Martin said. “Both commands enjoy rich and storied histories. I am fortunate to have served in the Army’s only independent operational tester and am looking forward to serving with America’s First Team.”
The division’s current deputy commander for maneuver, Brig. Gen. Thomas S. James Jr., was named deputy commandant of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and deputy commander for leader, development and education at the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
James joined the division in September.
There is currently no timeline for these changes to occur.
