A Fort Hood colonel was nominated for a star Thursday.

Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta announced that the president nominated Col. Joseph M. Martin, commander of U.S. Army Operational Test Command, for appointment to the rank of brigadier general. He took command in June after serving as the chief of staff for III Corps.

Command spokeswoman Eloise Lundgren said the soldiers, Department of the Army civilians and contractors of the Fort Hood unit are proud of Martin’s nomination.

“Our best wishes go to him and his family, and we look forward to his continued leadership of the Army’s only independent operational tester,” she said.
