Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, Army chief of staff, announced the assignment of two general officers to Fort Hood Friday.

Just days after her promotion ceremony, Brig. Gen. Laura J. Richardson, commanding general, U.S. Army Operational Test Command, was named future deputy commanding general of the 1st Cavalry Division.

The first female Test Command leader also will be the Army's first female deputy division commander, according to information from the service.

"I am humbled and honored to have been selected as a deputy division commander for the 1st Cavalry Division," she said in an emailed statement, adding that she would draw on her experiences with her Test Command colleagues in her new post. "They do an outstanding job of making sure soldiers get the best equipment available, and I will benefit from their contributions in my new assignment with the 'First Team.'"

Brig. Gen. Gary Volesky is the 1st Cavalry Division's current deputy commanding general-maneuver. Richardson's husband, Brig. Gen. James M. Richardson, is the division's deputy commander for support.

Richardson, a former aviator, took the helm of the test command in July 2011. Her change of command is expected this summer.

Also Friday, Brig. Gen. Clark W. LeMasters Jr., commandant, U.S. Army Ordnance School, U.S. Army Sustainment Center of Excellence of Fort Lee, Va., was named commanding general of the 13th Sustainment Command.

Brig. Gen. Terence Hildner, the 13th Sustainment's previous commander, died last month during a deployment to Kabul, Afghanistan, of apparent natural causes.

"I am honored to be selected for command, and look forward to serving with the great men and women of the 13th (Sustainment Command)," LeMasters said in an emailed statement. "My wife and I look forward to joining the community and making 'The Great Place' our new home."

He added he also felt like he was returning home, as he attended both both Killeen and Ellison high schools as a teenager.

Previously, LeMasters served at the Pentagon as executive officer to the Army's senior logistics officer.

A date for LeMasters' assumption of command was not available at press time.
