Col. Laura J. Richardson, U.S. Army Operational Test Command commander, receives the unit guidon from Col. Marshall A. Hagen, former director of the Airborne and Special Operations Test Directorate, as she prepares to pass command of the unit to Col. Mark L. Edmonds, the ABNSOTD’s new director.

Headquartered at Fort Hood, Texas, the USAOTC is part of the Army Testing and Evaluation Command, which is headquartered at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.

The ABNSOTD is one of eight directorates in the USAOTC, with a mission to test Soldier-essential combat systems and equipment that can be transported in, jumped with or airdropped from or transported outside rotary wing or fixed wing aircraft. Edmonds comes to Fort Bragg after serving as the chief of staff for the Mission Command Center of Excellence at the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. Richardson, an aviation officer who took command of the USAOTC earlier this month, is the unit’s first female commander.

Hagen is retiring after 28 years military service.
